The Misfits Collection II Album Art
Somewhere around 1994/1995 I wandered in to a brand new record shop that had opened within skateboarding distance from my house, conveniently located next to the hottest joints in town, the Winchell’s Donuts, and 7-11. Fisting my hard-earned, sweaty allowance, I perused the used CD section, looking for anything by any punk band I’d ever heard of.
While combing through the endless amount of used R.E.M. Monster CDs, a plague at the time, I saw this garish, pea soup green, and wretched brown cover art that featured, almost aggressively, a giant fucking skull in a hood. The was no band name, not on the front or the back. Cryptically small on the spine it said “MISFITS.”
Hypnotized by the hideous color combo and song titles like “Brain Eaters”,”Hate Breeders”, and “Devil’s Whorehouse,” I knew my 14 year old weekly salary had already been spent before I made it to the counter to pay the clerk, who clearly didn’t know I was purchasing an album that world forever change my teenage life.
I rode home, ran downstairs, slammed my door, and popped open my mighty 3-Disc CD changer, threw whatever was in there on to the surely clean floor, and hit play.
First impression, I thought “what the fuck was this?” I thumbed through the booklet to see if it contained any clues to what this was. I saw the name “Glen Danzig” printed as songwriter and I thought “the same Glen Danzig of Mother, Glen Danzig?” As if there could be two. This warranted further listening.
Then it hit on “Last Caress” and the deal was, as they say done, and the formation of my interest in the Misfits and Glen Danzig sprung wildly into existence.
This was pre reformed Misfits, pre Misfits box set, and Collection II would be all I could find given my limited resources at the time, but it was a mighty first step into something much, much bigger.
